It's that time of year when the year turns over and we all get a clean slate. How did the year end for you? For many, some goals were hit, some fell short, and some challenged the assumptions of what you could accomplish. The real question is, what did you learn? What did you fail at that made you better? As we turn the page into a new year here are 3 ways to think about your goals and how to crush them.

Your Goals Should Make You Uncomfortable
Goal setting is tricky, aim too small and it just doesn’t feel good. Aim too high and you risk not coming close to hitting your target. Goals should make you uncomfortable because you are challenging your status quo. They should stretch you outside of your comfort zone where growth really happens.

Maintaining a Healthy Self Concept
The challenge with creating goals that make us uncomfortable is maintaining a healthy self-concept of ourselves along the journey. Stay with me here, when we are falling short of a goal, many of us internalize shortcomings as a failure. What we fail to realize is that we are growing ourselves into the version that we had envisioned. We are better than when we started but we're so fixated on the target itself, we lose perspective on where the journey has taken us.

Be Relentless
Let's face reality, you are going to struggle in your journey, you more than likely will fail multiple times as you attempt to chase the impossible. Don't quit, don't listen to the naysayers, don't let that little voice inside of you talk you into letting up. When you pursue greatness, you must be relentless regardless of the obstacles. I wrote a previous article about leaving it all on the field, which simply means stretching our ability to perform each day . Ask for help, surround yourself with brilliant people that know and understand your vision. Give them permission to hold your feet to the fire and pick you up when you want to give up.

Cheers to a new year, to a new chapter in which you are the author, you decide what to put on the pages.

As always, stay driven, stay focused and most importantly, KEEP GROWING!
